Karen Owoc, ACSM-CEP, ACSM-CET is a clinical exercise physiologist in cardiopulmonary rehabilitation at the Palo Alto VA Medical Center. She is also a speaker and trainer in functional longevity and has been the weekly TV health expert on KRON 4 News in San Francisco for the past five years, speaking on all aspects of health in over 200 television interviews. Certified by the American College of Sports Medicine, Karen focuses on the fascinating findings of human longevity and the centenarian lifestyle.
Karen has extensive experience teaching nutrition and prescribing exercise as a treatment and prevention strategy for high-risk adults challenged with conditions often associated with lifestyle, such as cardiovascular and neurodegenerative diseases, type 2 diabetes, metabolic syndrome, osteoarthritis, osteoporosis, sarcopenia, and cancer.
Because of her love for sports, her background as a competitive freestyle skier, and family history of early-onset heart disease and stroke, Karen focused on a career path where food and exercise are used to treat, manage, and prevent disease.
