Caregiver Tip #2

ResoursesSpeak up!

Don’t be shy when it comes to asking for help, or even refusing help that is offered. Yes, it is true, there are lots of caregivers who actually refuse help when it is offered!

Why would someone refuse help, you ask? Well, possibly a variety of reasons.

1. The caregiver may be a perfectionist and feels like the person offering help just cannot do it right.

2. The caregiver may have the type of personality that has a hard time receiving help from others.

3. The caregiver may be under the assumption that they have everything under control, is doing fine, and doesn’t need any help.

4. The caregiver may be too proud to accept any offer of help, because it may make them feel like a failure because they can’t do the job by themself.

5. The caregiver may have been fighting with a sibling and does not want to give them any satisfaction of them helping.

Hopefully you can see how silly it is to refuse or fail to even ask for much needed help. Just do it!
