Caregiver Tip #7

DepressedWatch out for signs of depression, and know where to get professional help if you need it!  Doctors routinely prescribe anti-depressants to take the edge off of a depression that is the result of a chemical imbalance, or a temporary stressful season of your life. Depression can make a person not want to live any longer, and rob them of their energy, drive and any hope that things will get better. See your doctor, and don’t be afraid to try an anti-depressant.

Contrary to popular belief, it is not a drug that makes you dopy, or gives you symptoms similar to being under the influence of alcohol or recreational drugs. It simply restores the chemical imbalance in the brain so that it functions normally again.

Depression is also part of the normal occurring grief process, which happens when a loss occurs, like a loved one, freedoms, a job, etc.
