ASMR is known as Autonomy Sensory Meridian Response. This sensation occurs when a person experience tingles from watching videos with specific triggers. Some examples of ASMR triggers include whispers, taps on certain material or objects, speaking softly and role-play. When the trigger happens, the individual falls into a state of relaxation and gets a tingly sensation which starts at the top of the head.
Why should you care about ASMR? Well, it could be something you use to manage daily stress. We all deal with certain levels of stress on a daily basis and how we manage our stress is important to our well-being. For those of us who are caring for others, it’s even more essential to take care of ourselves. Caregiver burnout is a common problem people of all ages experience and can be prevented if caregivers start to gauge their health and wellness. Caregivers are also some of the busiest people in the world so if a video can alleviate a couple minute of their stress, why shouldn’t they consider it?
A study done at the University of Sheffield in the United Kingdom found that individuals who experience ASMR triggers benefit emotionally and physiologically when watching ASMR videos. Individuals in this study reported the highest levels of positive emotions and their heart rates dropped after the study.
